When announced their partnership with Microsoft to develop a software platform to seamlessly connect cars to the cloud, it made us think. Gone are the days where these often damp smelling concrete and brick exposed structures simply play home to hot wheels and Harleys. For dead space conversions to party and hang out with the the guys, when we think of the home of the future, the direction these guys are taking the space inevitably changes the functionality of the home car garage.

For drivers, the platform they look to create will mean quicker access to new functions and digital services. It will be based on Microsoft Azure and incorporate software modules from Bosch, enabling software to be developed and downloaded to the control units and vehicle computers.

The collaboration between Bosch and Microsoft combines the wealth of software, electronics, and systems expertise of the world’s leading automotive supplier with Microsoft’s know-how in software engineering and cloud computing.

The pandemic saw more of us working from home and the ability for cars to become harbourers of sensitive confidential information in the future means that our garage requirements will need to be designed in a way that safeguards the cyber vulnerability as more of our intellectual property and personal information continues to be uploaded through more and more portable devices.
